Autograph letter signed : London, to Joan Severn, 1889 Aug. 10 .

Relating news of her children; discussing motherhood and saying "being weaned from one's children as they grow old enough to belong to the world as well as ourselves, is equal to any weaning they ever suffered. Besides which, there is no 'bottle' which could be offered me as a substitute that I would not instantly break to bits--whereas we remember what they did;" discussing the beautiful summer weather; looking forward to hearing from her.
